Sherfield gallery Is located in Sherfield School, an independent co-educational day & boarding school. The gallery is housed in Buckfield, a beautiful Victorian manor house, which has medieval origins. The history of the site can be traced all the way to the twelfth century, when it formed part of the manor of Odiham, which was granted to William Fitz Aldelin by King Henry II. The house boasts some remarkable features: the beautiful staircase was carved in situ by Italian craftsmen, and the wonderful ceilings are rumoured to have been brought here from a palace in Florence; these, together with the imposing stone fireplaces and the individually carved oak panels of the original dining room, all bear witness to the tastes and the considerable wealth of Sherfield’s previous residents. Buckfield house has recently undergone renovations to make its stately rooms into fabulous exhibition spaces.

Sherfield Gallery opened in September 2013 and aims to be an important venue for contemporary visual art in Hampshire. The gallery is keen to support new and emerging talent alongside more established artists. Exhibitions change frequently, showing a diverse and varied range of work. The gallery is open to the public from Mon-Fri 9-5pm during term time by appointment. It also frequently holds Opening Nights with live music for each new exhibition.
